Overview
The National Academy of Sciences Award was established in 1955 in accordance with the Culture Protection Act. To further the advancement of sciences in Korea, the National Academy of Sciences presents the NAS Award to Korean scholars and scientists who have made significant contributions to the development of sciences through their research and academic pursuits.
Candidacy Criteria: Korean scholars and scientists who have made significant contributions to the academic and social development through concentrated and continuous research projects on specific subject areas of topics.
Award Categories (four fields): Humanities, Social Sciences, Basic Natural Sciences, and Applied Natural Sciences
Number of Awardees: Up to eight each year (within two in each section)
Selection Process: Selection follows a multi-stage review by the Screening Committee composed of the NAS members and external experts.
Award Details: Each recipient of the NAS Award is presented with the Letter of Citation, a Medal, and a cash Prize of One Hundred Million won.
